Worcester County Commissioners Name Matt Owens as New Fire Marshal

Snow Hill, Maryland (January 24, 2021) – The Worcester County Commissioners appointed Chief Deputy Fire Marshal Matt Owens to serve as the new fire marshal. He will step into his role March 7, 2022.

“It has been a pleasure working with Matt for almost 26 years,” said Fire Marshal Jeff McMahon, who will retire in March following 35 years of service. “He is well respected in the community and, especially, among the county’s public safety agencies.”

Worcester County Awarded Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for Thirteenth Consecutive Year

Snow Hill, Maryland (January 14, 2022) – The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada awarded Worcester County Government (WCG) a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the thirteenth consecutive year. This prestigious award, which is valid for a period of only one year, is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.

Kick Off This New Year Serving on a Worcester County Board or Commission

Snow Hill, Maryland (January 5, 2022): Worcester County Government (WCG) encourages those interested in becoming more involved in the community to volunteer on a Worcester County board or commission. Members are appointed by the County Commissioners to fill two types of vacancies: seats that represent each of the seven election districts, and open seats that may be filled by residents throughout Worcester County.

COMMISSIONERS APPOINT MICHAEL HUTCHINSON AS NEW MAINTENANCE SUPERINTENDENT

Snow Hill, Maryland (November 29, 2021) – The Worcester County Commissioners appointed Michael Hutchinson as the new superintendent within the Maintenance Division of Public Works.

“Mike is thoroughly familiar with Worcester County’s facilities,” Public Works Director Dallas Baker said. “His knowledge of building maintenance management and attention to detail make him the perfect choice as the new superintendent.”

Advisory Issued for Pocomoke River in the Vicinity of Snow Hill, Maryland

Snow Hill, MD (February 18, 2021) – As a result of prolonged periods of heavy rainfall, the Town of Snow Hill reported to the Maryland Department of the Environment and Worcester County Environmental Programs (WCEP) that there has been a combined sewer overflow (CSO) from the Snow Hill wastewater treatment plant of more than 500,000 gallons. A CSO is an overflow event from a combined sewer system that also collects stormwater.
