Delaware Volleyball Academy and Worcester County partner to offer summer camp

Worcester County Recreation and Parks (WCRP) has partnered with Delaware Volleyball Academy to offer a summer volleyball camp this year. This general skills camp will teach campers the fundamental skills of volleyball, including passing, setting, hitting, and serving. Campers will be separated into groups based on age and ability level.

This camp will take place at the Worcester County Recreation Center in Snow Hill, Monday through Wednesday, June 29 - July 1. Camp will run from 9:00–11:00 a.m. for grades K–3 and 9:00 a.m. to2:00 p.m. for grades 4–12.

Worcester County Recreation & Parks offers off-site day camps

New to the summer camp lineup, Worcester County Recreation & Parks is now offering two day camps, one at Shad Landing State Park and a second at Frontier Town Water Park. These camps will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and are open to youth in grades 4–8.     

Shad Landing Day Camp will take place Monday, June 29. The day will be packed with fun in the pool, followed by the Parks' Wings & Things exhibit. The afternoon will be spent on their many nature trails, exploring the great outdoors.

June 1 Marks the Start of Hurricane Season - Learn to Prepare

June 1st marks the start of hurricane season. Maryland Emergency Management Agency’s Director Clay Stamp, along with representatives from Delmarva Power Company and local emergency agencies encourage you to be prepared for hurricane season. Library Director to Retire, Acting Director Named

The Board of Trustees of the Worcester County Library has announced that Library Director Mark Thomas will retire on June 19, 2015.  The Board has appointed Jennifer Ranck as Acting Director for the library system, beginning June 20.

Cedar Hall Boat Ramp to be Open This Summer, Reconstruction Project Postponed

County officials have postponed the project to reconstruct the Cedar Hall boat ramp, which is located six miles from U.S. Rt. 13 off MD Rt. 371 in Pocomoke, to allow recreational boaters to use the ramp throughout the summer.

The reconstruction project, which was originally scheduled to begin May 26, is now scheduled to begin after  Day 2015 and take approximately 120 days to complete.

County Honors Friends of the Worcester County Developmental Center

The Commissioners and Volunteer Services Manager Kelly Brinkley recently recognized the Friends of the Worcester County Developmental Center (WCDC) in Newark with a County proclamation for the investment this group is making in improving the quality of life here in Worcester County. The Commissioners also presented the Friends with the prestigious President’s Gold Volunteer Service Award for investing over 2,236 volunteer hours in 2014.

Middle School Hoops to be Offered at Worcester County Recreation Center

For the first time, Worcester County Recreation & Parks will be offering an evening basketball program for middle school students. Middle School Hoops will give participants the opportunity to shoot hoops, join pick-up games, and have fun while participating in basketball.

Middle School Hoops will take place on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., May 26 through June 30. The fee is $25 per person and girls and boys grades 5 – 8 are invited to participate.

Cedar Hall Boat Ramp Closed for Reconstruction

The county boat ramp, located six miles from US Route 13 off MD Route 371 in Pocomoke, will undergo rehabilitation work and will be closed to the public for approximately 90 days beginning May 26, 2015. The anticipated reopening is September 15, 2015.

Adult Golf League Takes Players to Eight Different Courses in Worcester County

Worcester County Recreation & Parks brings back the Adult Golf League for the 2015 Spring/Summer season. The league will begin on Wednesday, May 20 at Eagles Landing Golf course in Berlin.

Golf league participants will have the opportunity to play on eight different courses in Worcester County including Ocean Pines Golf Club, Rum Pointe, Ocean City Golf Club, Glen Riddle, River Run, The Bay Club, Lighthouse Sound, and Eagles Landing. Participants will play on a different course each week during this 9-hole shotgun and take pleasure in the game of golf.
