Worcester County Urges Residents to Prepare for Weekend Nor’easter

Snow Hill, Maryland (October 9, 2025): Worcester County Department of Emergency Services (DES), in cooperation with the National Weather Service, is monitoring a significant coastal storm expected to impact the area beginning late Saturday afternoon. The greatest effects are anticipated late Saturday through early Monday.

The storm is forecast to bring heavy rain, strong winds with gusts of 55 mph or more, high surf, and coastal flooding exacerbated by king tides.

Due to the potential for flooding in low-lying and poorly drained areas, residents in mobile homes or flood-prone locations are urged to make arrangements to stay with friends or relatives ahead of the storm.

To be storm ready, DES advises residents to take the following precautions:

  • Secure outdoor objects, like lawn furniture and trash cans, that can become dangerous projectiles in high winds;
  • Tie down boats;
  • Assemble an emergency kit with essential supplies, including prescriptions, protective equipment, clothing, food, water, and other family needs.

“It’s important for residents and visitors to prepare before a storm,” DES Director Chris Shaffer said. “Know your property’s flood risk, identify your evacuation route, and gather supplies that can support your family for several days if needed.”
