Public Service Commission Public Hearing - Stephen Decatur Middle School - Sandpiper Energy Inc. Rate Increase

PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION PUBLIC NOTICE

A public hearing for comment will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 6:30 pm in the matter of Sandpiper Energy Inc.’s application to increase its natural gas and propane rates by $948,000. The application has been docketed by the Maryland Public Service Commission as Case No. 9410. Case filings and associated pleadings in the matter are available in the electronic docket file (9410) which may be viewed or downloaded at www.psc.state.md.us.

Worcester County Economic Development Accepting Applications for STEM Internship, Leadership, and Camp Programs

Worcester County Economic Development (WCED) is accepting applications from Worcester students ages 12-22 for 2016 STEM Summer Programs, which provide exceptional opportunities to explore career paths in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Online applications will be available at www.chooseworcester.org/STEM beginning March 1 and are due no later than March 31.  

Worcester County flag flies at half-mast outside the Government Center in Snow Hill

The Worcester County flag flies at half-mast outside the Government Center in Snow Hill this morning to honor Public Works Roads Worker Scott Tatterson who was struck by a vehicle and killed while working in the area of Greenbackville Road in Stockton Monday, February 22. Our thoughts and prayers are with Wade Pusey who was also struck and is under active medical care. Scott and Wade are valuable and valued members of our Worcester County family, and our hearts are broken in light of the tragedy that befell our family yesterday.

 

Worcester, Somerset Counties Under Snow Emergency

BERLIN, Md.- Maryland State Police say snow emergency plans are in place for Worcester and Somerset counties. 

The plan is in effect to assist the State Highway Administration in snow clearing operations throughout the county, police said. 

According to police, all vehicles on the roadway must be equipped with snow chains or snow tires on both driving wheels of motor vehicles. In addition, a parking ban is imposed on all snow emergency routes in the county.

Worcester County inspires travel on new TV series Travels with Darley this Sunday

Scenic Worcester County will be featured on Travels with Darley on PBS stations nationwide Sunday, February 14, 2016, at 9 a.m. on MPT2 and Channel 268 on Comcast.

Newly Renovated Cedar Hall Boat Ramp Now Open to Public

County officials are proud to announce that the newly renovated Cedar Hall Boat Ramp is once again open for use to recreational boaters.

The boat ramp, located six miles from U.S. Rt. 13 off MD Rt. 371 in Pocomoke, underwent a four-month renovation project that began after Labor Day.

Enhancements to the facility include an extended ramp that reaches out further into the river, floating finger piers and wheel stops on the ramp. The improvements make it possible for more boats to safely access the boat ramp.

National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for snow for Ocean City, Caroline, Cecil, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Somerset, Talbot, Wicomico and Worcester Counties.

Upper Eastern Shore:  0100-1200 hrs. Friday, snow accumulation 2-4 inches 
Lower Eastern Shore: 0001-1300 hrs. Friday, snow accumulation 1-3 inches

* Hazard types: snow. 
* Accumulations: Highest accumulations on unpaved surfaces. 

Worcester County Emergency Services Sponsors Basic CERT Training

Disasters can happen anywhere or anytime.  Learn how you can provide critical support to your family and community during a disaster. Come join your neighbors for a 24 hour Basic CERT training course sponsored by the Worcester County Department fo Emergency Services. There are no fees or charges associated with this course. The course will be held on Tuesday evenings for a total of eight sessions.
