Worcester County Offices Closed November 8 and 11 for Federal Holidays

Worcester County Government (WCG) offices, including Recreation and Parks, and the Department of Liquor Control (DLC) administrative office, will be closed for two federal holidays, Election Day, November 8, and Veterans Day, November 11.

All five Branch Libraries, Central Landfill, Homeowner Convenience Centers, and Shore Spirits Retail Liquor Stores will be open during standard hours of operation on both dates.

Worcester County staff wish one and all a happy and safe holiday weekend.

Community Feedback Welcome for Plans to Enhance Bishopville Park

Worcester County Recreation and Parks (WCRP) staff invite the public to share feedback on a plan to enhance the Bishopville Park. Residents and interested parties are invited to provide comments about the plan at a community meeting on Friday, November 18, 2016, from 6-8 p.m. at Wilson United Methodist Church, located at 10722 Bishopville Road in Bishopville. All interested citizens are encouraged to attend.

After receiving public feedback, WCRP staff will present the revised draft plan to the Worcester County Commissioners for their consideration at a future date.

Worcester County Road Detour for Big Mill Road Bridge

The Worcester County Department of Public Works is implementing a detour effective immediately for all traffic traveling on Sheephouse Road/Big Mill Road as a result of recent flooding events which caused significant damage to the roadway and associated culvert causing a portion of the roadway to be closed to all traffic.  

 The detour will be in place until further notice.

Five Mile Branch Road Bridge to be Replaced

The Worcester County Department of Public Works is implementing plans to replace  Five Mile Branch Road bridge starting November 14, 2016. Fi This bridge was scheduled to be replaced after earning unsatisfactory bridge sufficiency ratings during the county’s annual bridge inspection program. This bridge replacement project is eligible for federal funding under the Highway Bridge Program.

Worcester County Tourism Together With OceanCity.com to Host Let’s Put Ocean City on the Map workshop to Help Businesses Boost Their Online Presence

Snow Hill, MD - Worcester County Tourism together with State Ventures, publisher of OceanCity.com, Shore Craft Beer, Annapolis.com and other destination websites, are helping small businesses grow their presence online with a Let’s Put Ocean City on the Map workshop. The workshop will take place November 9 at the Clarion Resort Fontainebleau from 10 a.m. to noon. A continental breakfast will be provided by Worcester County.

Golf Tournament Proceeds Benefit Youth Recreation

The Worcester County Commissioners are pleased to announce the results of the fourth annual "Tee off for Youth" Golf Tournament to benefit youth recreation in Worcester County. Eighteen teams participated in the full scramble tournament, which was headed up by the American Legion Riders (ALR) Post 166 of Ocean City. Four of the eighteen teams comprised of county employees were competing for the John A. Yankus County Cup, named for Worcester County’s first chief administrative officer.

Track or Treat

Worcester County Recreation & Parks invites you to join them for a safe Trick or Treating event! Track or Treat will take place at the Worcester County Recreation Center in Snow Hill on Friday, October 28, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
This family-fun event is open to youth ages 12 and under. Local vendors will hand out goodies to the kids, and kid-friendly games will be offered. Children should come dressed in their Halloween costumes, and don't forget to bring a bag to collect goodies.  
There is no admission fee for this event, but children must be accompanied by an adult.

Worcester County Roads remove a fallen tree from Whiton Crossing Road

Worcester County would like to remind you to be cautious as you drive on roads not flooded, make sure to look out for storm debris that could still remain on the roadways. Take extra precautions if you are forced to drive through standing water.

Drive slowly and steadily through the water. Remember "turn around don't drown".

Each year more deaths occur due to flooding that from any other thunderstorm related hazard.

Worcester Technical High School Recognized at Skills USA Conference

October 4, 2016, the Commissioners commend Worcester Technical High School (WTHS) students for earning national recognition at the 52nd annual SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Louisville, Kentucky, which took place June 20-25, and for WTHS receiving the 2016 SkillsUSA Chapter of Excellence Award.

October is Shore Craft Beer Month in Worcester County

October 4, 2016, the Commissioners and Tourism Director Lisa Challenger join with Assawoman Bay Brewing Company Head Brewer Jason Weissberg (front row, from left) and ShoreCraftBeer.com creator Ann Hillyer to proclaim October as Shore Craft Beer Month in Worcester County and to promote the capstone event, Shore Craft Beer Fest, on October 29, as well as other activities in October that promote the County and the surrounding region as a craft beer destination.
