WCRP Hosts Summer Field Hockey Camp in Berlin

Worcester County Recreation & Parks (WCRP) will host Youth Field Hockey Camp at the Northern Worcester Athletic Complex off U.S. Rt. 113 in Berlin from Monday – Friday, August 7 –11, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and is open to children grades 1st – 8th.

This camp is open to children in grades 1-8 and will introduce them to non-competitive field hockey fundamentals and instruction, including drills, exercises, and modified game play.

Worcester Health Offers Summer Smoking Cessation Classes

 Snow Hill, MD- Breathe deep and make 2017 a smoke-free summer with Worcester County Health Department’s free smoking cessation classes. Worcester Health is committed to helping smokers establish new behavior patterns that lead to a tobacco free lifestyle. With the smoking cessation class, Chantix, gum, patch, lozenges and other aids to help individuals quit tobacco are available through a voucher program.  Join one of the smoking cessation classes available throughout Worcester County starting in July.

Worcester County Government offices closed July 4

Worcester County Government (WCG) offices, including all five Branch Libraries, Recreation and Parks, Central Landfill and Homeowner Convenience Centers, will be closed Tuesday, July 4, 2017, for Independence Day.

The Shore Spirits Retail Liquor Store in Pocomoke City will be open during standard hours of operation.

All WCG offices will resume standard hours of operation on Wednesday, July 5.  Homeowner Convenience Centers are closed on their normal Wednesday schedule and will re-open Thursday, July 6, 2017.

Local Health and Human Services Available through 2-1-1 Maryland

Snow Hill, MD – The 2-1-1 Maryland hotline is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week in more than 180 languages. Services are available locally through the Worcester County Health Department by dialing 2-1-1. These services include peer recovery support and access to treatment.

Registration Open for Swim Lessons with Worcester Recreation & Parks

Registration is open with Worcester County Recreation & Parks (WCRP) for summer Swim Lessons. Swimming is an essential skill for children living on the Eastern Shore, and WCRP staff are offering lessons for children ages 3 and older at the Shad Landing Swimming Pool in Pocomoke State Park near Snow Hill.

There will be three separate sessions offered. Each session will last two weeks. Session 1 will take place from July 10 – July 20, Session 2 from July 24 – August 3, and Session 3 from August 7 – August 17.

Active Adult Summer Fitness at Worcester County Recreation & Parks

Summer registration is now open for Early Bird Fitness at the Worcester County Recreation Center in Snow Hill from July 5 to September 22 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:00 – 8:40 a.m.

This program is open to active adults ages 45 and older who would like to get up and get moving to start their day. Participants will work through a variety of exercises during 40-minute workouts designed to increase mobility and flexibility and challenge participants to increase their fitness abilities.

Evening Fitness Classes at Worcester County Recreation Center

Summer registration is open to adults ages 18 and older for two evening fitness classes, Power Circuit Training and Yoga, at the Worcester County Recreation Center in Snow Hill.

Power Circuit Training, the perfect full-body workout, will run from July 5 to September 20 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. Designed to hit all your muscle groups in this hour-long workout, participants will complete workouts individually or with a partner.

Carey Road detour to begin June 23

The Public Works Roads Division will be closing Carey Road at its intersection with the Maryland and Delaware Railroad in Berlin beginning June 23, 2017, while the train track is being reconstructed.

Detours will be in place throughout the course of the project and are as follows:

Warden Donna Bounds

The Commissioners announce the appointment of Donna Bounds, as the new Worcester County Jail warden.

“Warden Bounds is an outstanding professional who knows the Worcester County Jail, and she is highly respected by public safety officials throughout the state,” Commission President Jim Bunting said. “She is the right person to lead the Worcester County Jail.”
