Public Invited to Weigh In on Bond Bill and Proposal to Purchase Property for Sports Complex

Snow Hill, Maryland (March 29, 2021) – The Worcester County Commissioners will host a public hearing on a proposal to purchase 95.521 acres of property in the Berlin/West Ocean City area and identified on Tax Map 25 as Parcel 89 to develop a sports complex, using a portion of the proceeds from general obligation bond funds of $11,198,830 in FY23 to fund acquisition, design, and development costs. The public hearing will take place in the Stephen Decatur High School auditorium in Berlin on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at 6 p.m.

March 1, 2022, Worcester County Commissioners present a proclamation recognizing March as Professional Social Work Month to professionals representing the Department of Social Services (DSS), Worcester County Health Department, and Life Crisis to recognize the vital role of social workers in meeting the most pressing challenges of all of our lifetimes, the COVID-19 pandemic.

Housing Rehabilitation Assistance Available to Eligible Low to Moderate Income Individuals and Families through Worcester County

Worcester County is currently accepting applications from low to moderate income individuals and families who may be eligible for general home rehabilitation assistance through the Worcester County Housing Rehabilitation Program. This program provides grant and loan funding to owner occupied properties for general rehabilitation and lead abatement services.

January Recognized as Human Trafficking Prevention Month

Snow Hill, Maryland – February 1, the commissioners present a proclamation to Ed Thomas, co-chair of the Eastern Shore Human Trafficking Task Force, and Chief Deputy Doug Dods, of the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, to retroactively recognize January as Human Trafficking Prevention Month. Human trafficking is a serious problem in which traffickers use violence, threats, deception, and other manipulative tactics to force and coerce youth and adults to engage in commercial sex acts or to provide labor or services against their will.

February is National Canned Food Month

Snow Hill, Maryland – February 1, this month Worcester County employees are collecting nonperishable foods to donate to the Snow Hill Food Bank to help fight hunger locally. To kick off the food drive, the Worcester County commissioners presented a proclamation recognizing February as National Canned Food Month to Snow Hill Food Bank representatives Nick Carter and Rosalee Mason and county employees serving on the Worcester County Wellness Committee. Black History Month Recognized

Snow Hill, Maryland – February 1, the commissioners present a proclamation recognizing February as Black History Month to Reverend James Jones of New Macedonia Church of Pocomoke. Throughout the month of February, the Worcester County Government Center will be adorned with interpretive signs that highlight African American people and places that helped shape our county.
