Rip Current Safety – Know Before You Go!

NOAA officials are reminding beachgoers of the moderate threat of rip currents this holiday weekend. Before heading out to splash in the waves, know the facts on rip currents: what rip currents are, how to identify and avoid them, and if caught, how to break the grip of the rip!  

“Fifty-five individuals have lost their lives to drownings so far this year, with a significant portion of those losses having occurred in the last couple of weeks,” NOAA Meteorologist Jeff Orrock said. “…always swim near a lifeguard. The threat of drowning decreases dramatically on guarded beaches.
