NOAA officials are reminding beachgoers of the moderate threat of rip currents this holiday weekend. Before heading out to splash in the waves, know the facts on rip currents: what rip currents are, how to identify and avoid them, and if caught, how to break the grip of the rip!
“Fifty-five individuals have lost their lives to drownings so far this year, with a significant portion of those losses having occurred in the last couple of weeks,” NOAA Meteorologist Jeff Orrock said. “…always swim near a lifeguard.
