West Ocean City Dwelling Fire

On December 9, 2017 at approximately 0030 hours the Ocean City Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a reported residential structure fire at 11906 Ocean Gateway, Ocean City, Maryland in Worcester County.  First fire units reported the fire had been extinguished by the occupant prior to their arrival.  The Berlin Volunteer Fire Company was alerted to assist.  The fire was contained to the rear exterior of the single story dwelling with minor extension to the interior.  The dwelling was occupied at the time of the fire by John Conrad.  Conrad advised he was alerted to the fire by the activation of a smoke alarm.  Conrad advised he utilized a pot of water and a garden hose in an attempt to extinguish the fire.  The fire was ignited by an electric space heater located in an exterior cat house.  Anyone with questions is asked to contact Chief Deputy Matthew Owens at 410-632-5666 ext 2 or mowens@co.worcester.md.us.
