Pocomoke Family of Seven Left Homeless After Fire

The Worcester County Fire Marshal's Office has investigated a fire which left a family of seven (7) homeless.  The fire occurred during a severe thunderstorm on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 8:59PM.  Arriving firefighters found heavy fire and smoke in the attic area of the two story single family home located at 1851 Cypress Road in Pocmoke, Maryland.  Firefighters from Pocmoke, Stockton, Snow Hill and New Chruch responded to the fire.  The home was occupied at the time of the fire.  No injuries were reported.  The house is owned by David Merrill of Pennsylvania and occupied the the James Jones, Jr. family.  The cause of the fire is contributed to a lightening strike.  The family was assisted by the American Red Cross.  Anyone with additioanl information or questions is asked to call Deputy Fire Marshal Chris Vieira at 410.632.5666 ext. 5.
