Girdletree Residential Structure Fire Leave 4 Homeless

The Worcester County Fire Marshal's Office has investigated a fire which left 4 people homeless after a morning fire.  Girdletree, along with Stockton, Snow Hill, Newark, Pocomoke and Greenbackville, Virginia were alerted for the 9:10AM reported residential structure fire on Sunday, April 2, 2017.  Arriving firemen reported heavy smoke and fire from an attached garage.  It took firefighters about 30 minutes to control the blaze.   Three of the four occupants were home at the time of the fire.  No injuries were reported.  The property is owned by Joe Serman and was occupied by Susan and Harry Monroe, Larry Cox and Michael Gardner.  The cause of the fire is accidental and contributed to an improperly installed flu pipe and wood stove located in the garage.  Anyone with information or questions is asked to call Fire Marshal Jeff McMahon at 410.632.5666 Ext. 1 or jmcmahon@co.worcester.md.us
