Advisory Lifted for Pocomoke River in Snow Hill Vicinity

October 5, 2016 – As a result of recent sampling analysis that was conducted in response to the combined sanitary overflow (CSO) reported by the Town of Snow Hill, the Worcester County Department of Environmental Programs has lifted the public advisory that was issued on September 30.  

  The high volume of stream flow contributed to the rapid dilution of the combined stormwater- sewage overflow. 

Roadway Conditions May Impact Commute for Monday as Flooding Continues

Roadway conditions may impact residents commute for Monday as major flooding continues along the Pocomoke River.

MD 12 is currently closed just south of Sermon Road near the fire tower due to washout.  This segment of road is expected to remain closed for several weeks. MD 12 is also closed between the Department of Liquor Control and Green Street in Snow Hill due to high water that is expected to persist for several days. Commuters from the Salisbury area are encouraged to travel via US 13S to US 113N through Pocomoke or US 50E to US 113S through Berlin.

Avoid Contact with Pocomoke River Near Snow Hill at This Time Due to Combined Sanitary Overflow

Friday, September 30, 2016 – As a result of prolonged periods of heavy rainfall, the Town of Snow Hill reported to the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) and Worcester County Environmental Programs that they have a combined sewer overflow event of over 10,000 gallons from their treatment plant. A combined sanitary overflow (CSO) is an overflow event from a combined sewer system that also collects rainwater.

Household Hazardous Waste & E-Cycling Collection Day on October 1

The Recycling Division of Worcester County Public Works, in conjunction with Maryland Environmental Services and the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE), will conduct Household Hazardous Waste and E-Cycling (electronics recycling) Collection Day on Saturday, October 1, 2016, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Showell Elementary School parking lot.

Community Alert Siren to Sound Saturday, October 1

Saturday, October 1, Worcester County emergency alert signals will sound from area fire sirens. A steady alert tone will sound at 10:00 a.m. for approximately one minute.

The signals are tested the first Saturday of each month. In the event of an actual emergency, the sirens would be used as additional means to warn the surrounding communities of imminent danger and the need to tune to either radio, television or the internet for information. 

Worcester County offers free emergency training in Newark

Worcester County Emergency Services (WCES) invites the public to participate in a free, 8-session Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) course in Newark. 
The training will take place at the Fire Training Center, located at 6743 Central Site Lane just off U.S. Rt. 113 adjacent to Worcester Technical High School, on Tuesdays from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. from October 11 – November 22, 2016.
