Berlin House Destroyed By Fire, Owner Transported to AGH

The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a house fire at  8915 Bethel Road in Berlin, Maryland which occurred at 11:40PM Thursday, June 13, 2019. Firefighters from Berlin, Showell, Bishopville, Newark, Ocean Pines and Snow Hill responded.

The two story house was fully engulfed in flames upon the fire department's arrival. It took firefighters over an hour to control the fire. The home was owned and occupied by John Maxwell. The occupant woke to the smell of smoke and was able to escape prior to the fire department's arrival.  Mr. Maxwell was transported to AGH for burns and smoke inhalation. There was no smoke alarm activation and the home was not equipped with a residential fire sprinkler system. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
